Health, Wellbeing & Benevolent Support

At Scottish Postmasters for Justice & Redress (SPJR), we understand that the impact of the Post Office Horizon scandal goes far beyond legal injustice. For many, the emotional and financial toll has been devastating — affecting not only postmasters, but also their families and communities.

This section of our website is dedicated to your health, wellbeing, and support. Whether you’re navigating the complex path toward redress or still coming to terms with the harm caused, you don’t have to do it alone.

Here, you’ll find information on wellbeing resources — including mental health support, counselling services, and practical guidance for those experiencing stress, anxiety, or trauma related to their experience. You’ll also find details about the Benevolent Fund, a charity offering financial assistance to postmasters and their families in times of hardship.

SPJR is here to help you access the assistance you need — with dignity, compassion, and confidentiality.

If you are a current or former postmaster, assistant, or Crown office employee affected by the Horizon system and its consequences, please explore the resources here and don’t hesitate to reach out. You are not alone, and it is never too late to seek support.

Health & Wellbeing

Looking after yourself often takes a back seat when you’re dealing with legal battles, emotional strain, or the daily demands of life and work. But your wellbeing matters.

We believe that mental health is just as important as physical health — and no one should feel alone in facing the emotional impact of what’s happened.

That’s why we’ve gathered a range of practical resources and professional support options to help you:

  • Manage stress, anxiety, and trauma
  • Develop self-care routines that support your emotional resilience
  • Access trained counsellors and mental health first aiders
  • Find support for grief, burnout, or ongoing mental health challenges

You don’t need to carry the weight of this alone. Whether you need someone to talk to or want to explore tools to support your wellbeing, help is available.

Mental Health Toolkit

Our Mental Health Toolkit offers practical resources to help you manage difficult emotions, reduce stress, and build resilience. It includes simple strategies, reflections, and signposts to professional support services.

Designed for postmasters, ex-postmasters, their staff, and families, the toolkit encourages open conversations and aims to reduce the stigma around mental health.
